White walls and wine

Jack Lewens is a sommelier, restaurateur, vineyard owner and makes his own wine under the brand name Vigneti Tardis. He also puts together wine lists, consulting for a variety of restaurants, dividing his time between London, Paris, Italy and more recently, Frome, where I also live.

As a way to raise brand awareness for his most recent venture, New Wave Artesenal Wine, he got in touch with us at the gallery and asked whether he could use the space to open a short-run, 'pop up' wine shop and bar, serving various low intervention, natural wines and a selection of small plates and tapas from local growers and dairies.

In order to add some colour to the white walls, in a simple, 'quick-n-dirty' fashion, we showcased three local artists whose work had relevance in the town, was visually arresting and easy to hang without too much in the way of big associated costs or weeks of organising.

I was one of those artists and was able to show some images from my recently finished personal series, 08.20, which gave me the perfect opportunity to play with editing, spacing and curation of the images, as well as mucking around with a shiny new laser level to get nearly 150 holes drilled accurately!

It was such a fun way to share and view the work, as well 'learn about' – i'll leave that open to interpretation – Jack's incredible array of wines in a simple, spontaneous way.
